It’s the final countdown! Team USA excitement seems to be building every where I look. In the next ten days, expect to see tips on how to celebrate the Olympics at home, book recommendations, trivia, and more!
With just ten days to go, I thought I’d highlight ten of the notable numbers involved in the Olympics:
3 - Years since the last summer Olympics. Rare decrease from standard 4 year cycle as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to COVID-19 and actually held in 2021
19 - Total days of the Paris Olympics
28 - Total medals by the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps (of current Olympians, record is 12 by equestrian champion Isabell Werth from Germany)
32 - Number of sports
35 - Number of different venues
206 - Number of “countries”. The IOC includes some territories as distinct countries and also will include “Individual Neutral Athletes” and “Refugee Olympic Team” which are comprised of individuals who cannot or will not compete under their national flags.
329 - Number of events
592 - Number of athletes on Team USA
1900 - The first year Paris hosted a summer Olympics
10,000+ - Number of overall Olympic athletes
Lee Keifer is a 4 time Olympian and reigning gold medalist in Individual Foil (fencing). She’s the first American woman to be ranked first in the world in foil. She’s also married to fellow Olympian, Gerek Meinhardt. If her fencing prowess isn’t enough to impress you, her plan post Paris is to finish getting her medical degree.
Medal count: 0.
But in keeping with the notable numbers theme, let’s see if Team USA can improve upon the 2020 Tokyo haul of 113 medals (39G, 41S, 33B)! The most gold medals for Team USA was 83 golds in the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Opening Ceremonies are on July 26th, but some qualifying events will begin prior to the opening. USA men’s soccer and men’s rugby group play begins on July 24th vs France (both teams).

WTH! And now it's American Diving History. I. Just. Can't. Handle all of the Emotions!!!! Kelsey, see what you started!
